Some Lose Jobs, Others Get Raises

The Virginia Museum of Natural History plans to let up to six people go in order to balance a reduced budget affecting all state operations. Ironically, the ones that remain will get a 3 percent across-the-board raise.

The General Assembly on Saturday passed a state spending plan that includes significant pay increases for state police and other law enforcement officers, state employees,  and teachers. The budget does not include tax increases.

Lawmakers said they made employee compensation and funding mental health care a priority this year. Governor Terry McAuliffe says he’s generally happy with the budget this year.
