A Gretna woman died after a single-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Pittsylvania County. A 2008 Honda Civic was traveling north on Va. 609 when it ran off the right side of the road, according to a news release from the Virginia State Police issued late Tuesday night. Police said the driver, Sierra R. Lane, 19, of Gretna, over-corrected, which caused the vehicle to slide across Va. 609, through the intersection with Va. 766, and continue off the side of Va. 766. The car then struck an embankment. The impact with the embankment caused the vehicle to vault over a fence and land upside down in a field on the other side of the fence, according police. Lane was not wearing a seat-belt and was ejected from the car. She was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where she died later Friday.
