Hobert “Carlyle” Turner

Hobert “Carlyle” Turner, 87, of Pleasant Drive, Cascade, Virginia, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017, at home. He was born January 28, 1930, in Henry County, to the late Dewey R. Turner, Sr. and Alphia Hutcherson Turner. He worked for W. M. Bassett Furniture almost 50 years. He was a veteran of the Unites Army. Mr. Turner was an active member of New Destiny Church and was a gentle and humble soul who loved visiting and talking to people.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Crowder Turner; a son, Donnie Turner; grandson Jamie Turner; three sisters, Pauline Norman, Geneva Johnson and Gladys Harmon and three brothers, Dewey Turner, Jr., William David Turner and Richard Lee Turner.

He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Turner Reynolds of Martinsville; two sons, Tommy C. Turner of Martinsville and Timothy William Turner of Chatham; two sisters, Shirley Mason of Axton and Elizabeth “Libby” Biggs of Martinsville; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Pastors Ken Marshall and Paul Hook officiating. The family will receive friends one-half hour prior to the service at 2:00. Burial will follow in Mount Hermon Church Cemetery in Bassett.
