Driver of Stolen Vehicle Flees Scene of Crash

On March 19, 2017 at approximately 11:10 am an investigator with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office was on Pine St. in the Fieldale area of Henry County conducting a follow-up investigation. He observed a green Mazda 626 that had recently been reported to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office as a stolen vehicle. The investigator attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver refused to pull over. The vehicle continued through the Fieldale community at slow speeds and came to a stop at the intersection of Pine St. and Chestnut St. where a white female exited the passenger seat and ran on foot. The driver accelerated away at a high rate of speed. The investigator made the decision to terminate the vehicle pursuit due to the speeds in a residential community.

A short time later the investigator discovered that the vehicle had been involved in a single vehicle crash in the 3000 block of Carver Rd. The driver fled the scene on foot.
