Chauncey Darwin Redd (Nashid Husamidin Muhammad), 66, died Sunday, May 7th, 2017 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. A prayer service will precede his funeral services, Tuesday May 9th at 3pm at Wright Funeral Service. Funeral services and entombment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors following the services at the Horsepasture District Volunteer Fire Department’s community room.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Roland Redd. Nashid is survived by his companion and soulmate of 32 years, Shirley Davis; children and step children, Stephen Brown (Virginia Beach, Virginia). Larena Patrick (Los Angeles, California), Sean Stockton, Delano Davis (both of Martinsville, Virginia), Rahman Muhammad (Roanoke, Virginia), Raheem (Michelle) Muhammad (Richmond, Virginia), Asia (William) O’Neal (Midlothian, Virginia), Taheerah Muhammad (Norfolk, Virginia), Hasan Davis, Nakeshia (Cedric) Penn (both of Martinsville, Virginia); brothers, Darnell (Sharon) Turner (Temple Hills, MD), Khalil (Cecilia) Muhammad, (Upper Marlboro, MD), Xavier D. (Tandra) Redd (High Point, NC); sisters, Ahmedta (Joseph) Via (Greensboro, NC) and Zaneta (Wayne) Batchelor (Tallahasse, FL), and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren, one step great grandchild, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Nashid was a Muslim whose faith in Allah he relied. He was a member of the Islamic Center of Martinsville. He was unique. He was loved and will be missed by many who cherish his memory. May God’s peace be with our brother.
