A passing motorist spotted what appeared to be a disabled car on the Route 265 bypass Monday afternoon and found a body nearby. Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s spokesman Devin Taylor says the discovery was made about 4 p.m. After spotting a vehicle parked alongside the road, the motorist stopped and then noticed the body of a female lying near the southbound lane of the road. State and local investigators cordoned off the area with yellow crime scene tape and conducted a crime scene investigation. The body is that of a white female. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the cause of death appears to have been a gunshot wound. They believe the car belonged to the woman whose body was found. Officials say they do not suspect foul play. The sheriff’s department is working to make a positive identification and is attempting to locate the next-of-kin. The body has been taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke to determine the cause and manner of death. The investigation continues.
