Spencer Man Jailed on Vehicle Charges

Martinsville, VA – On Thursday, May 18th at approximately 9:03pm, a Martinsville Officer saw a white Volkswagen exceeding the speed limit, going south on Memorial Boulevard. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The suspect initially pulled off the road, then pulled back onto Memorial Boulevard and accelerated. The officer pursued the Volkswagen south, out of the city and onto U.S. Route 58 going west. When entering the Spencer area, the pursuit began to encounter other vehicle traffic and the speeds began to exceed 100 mph. The pursuing officer determined that with the extreme speeds, and the amount vehicle traffic, the pursuit was creating conditions that were too dangerous for the public’s safety. The officer then called off the pursuit.

Although the pursuit ended the officers did not stop their investigation. Assisted by Henry County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police, the suspect’s vehicle was located and the offending driver was identified and arrested.

Brandon Lewis Ramsey of Maple Leaf Road Spencer VA was arrested and charged with felony eluding, reckless driving, running a red light, improper registration and failing to obtain vehicle registration.

Ramsey is being held without bail at the Martinsville City Jail.
