E. Coli Causing Problems at SML

Parts of Smith Mountain Lake may be unsafe to swim in because of high levels of E. coli. Officials say to not swallow the water while swimming in the lake and to not swim right after a heavy rain. Swimmers also should avoid dirty areas of the lake. The water quality tests showed high levels of E. coli bacteria at the end of the cove in the back of Becky’s Creek on the Franklin County side of the Roanoke River and in the Bull Run area of the lake.
