Police Investigate Hit and Run Involving Pedestrian

Martinsville, VA – On July 17, 2017 at approximately 9:42 AM officers of the Martinsville Police Department were called to Spruce Street near the intersection of Spruce Street Extension regarding a hit- and-run accident with a pedestrian. The accident occurred when the pedestrian, Joseph Mooney, 53 years of age, was crossing Spruce Street. He was struck by a vehicle traveling east on Spruce Street. The suspect vehicle left the scene without stopping.

The vehicle has damage to the front passenger side bumper and to the passenger side mirror. Witnesses and physical evidence indicate that the suspect vehicle is a 2001 to 2003 dark grey or black Honda Civic. Due to Mr. Mooney’s injuries he was flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

The Martinsville Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect vehicle and driver. Crime Stoppers is an anonymous tip line and callers with information leading to arrest and conviction could be eligible for up to a $2,500 reward.
