Anthem’s “ER Program” Doesn’t Apply to Virginia… yet

Anthem’s policy to deny payment for what it considers unnecessary emergency room visits does not affect Virginia customers. Anthem spokesman Scott Golden said the ER program “isn’t currently in Virginia, and at this time there are no plans to implement it. The Roanoke Times published a story about Anthem’s policy in some states to deny paying for emergency room visits if the insurer believes its customer could have received less expensive care at a clinic or urgent care center. Anthem is the only company offering coverage to Martinsville and Henry County residents through the exchange in 2018.
