James Harding Anderson, Jr., 97, of Martinsville, VA passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born on April 22, 1920 to the late James Hillary Anderson and Mary Powell Anderson in Drexel, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years Ruby Taylor Anderson; son, Jerry Anderson; brother, Joseph A. Anderson; and sister, Bessie A. Collie.
He is survived by a son, Dennis H. Anderson of Walkertown, NC; daughter, Carol A. Collins of High Point, NC; grandchildren, Kim (Roger) Palmer, Doug W. (Stephanie) Anderson, and Jeffrey (Pam) Anderson; and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Palmer and Samuel Anderson.
He was a wounded veteran of World War II that served in the United States Army and was involved in the Battle of the Bulge, and for his bravery he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Mr. Anderson was a charter member of Trinity Friends Church where he devoted twenty-five years teaching Adult Bible Class. He was a retiree of Gravely Furniture.
Family will greet friends at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Friends Church with Pastor Karl Luff officiating. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be at Roselawn Burial Park with Military Honors by Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
