Winter Weather Advisory Now in Effect

A winter weather advisory is now in effect for our area and will expire at midnight tonight. A weak area of low pressure is passing to the south of the region. Moisture lifting northeast will overspread the residual cold air resulting in a light wintry mix of precipitation, most of which will fall during the afternoon and evening. The precipitation may begin as snow and sleet, then transition to rain and freezing rain depending on the surface temperature. The ice will result in very slippery conditions on sidewalks, roads and bridges, especially during the evening commute today. Total ice accumulations of a light glaze to as much as a tenth of an inch can be expected
