Jean Hankins Tunnell, 79, of Bassett, VA passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at her home. She was born on June 11, 1938 in Danville, VA to the late Roland Hankins and Anna Mae Odell Hankins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lloyd Denvil Hodges; and brothers, Joe Hankins and Jerry Hankins.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Cleveland Tunnell of the home; daughter, Twyla Hodges of Bassett; sons, Michael Nuckles, Sr. ( Pam) of Horsepasture and Lloyd “Danny” Hodges (Barbara) of Bassett; step-sons, Chuck Tunnell, (Janet) of Smith Mountain Lake and Chris Tunnell, (Jean) of Collinsville; sisters, Joy McClelland on Conway, SC and Judy Hall (Sam) of Axton; and brothers, James Hankins (Doris) of Atlanta, GA and Jethro Hankins (Debbie) of Martinsville. Also surviving are grandchildren, Lori Nuckles Berry, Michael Nuckles, Jr., Brandy Nuckles Riddle, Wanda Barr, Joy Evans, Joshua Arrington, Dustin Arrington, Casey Reffett, Logan Tunnell, Whitney Plaster, and Joey Barr; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Schelling and David Naff officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the church and other times at the home. Burial will be at Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.
