Harvest Foundation Releases Annual Report

Province Healthcare bought the Martinsville Hospital almost 16 years ago for $120.5 million dollars. Today, the Harvest Foundation, a charitable foundation formed from the sale, released its annual report.

As of the end of last year, total grants paid are $113.74 million dollars while net assets have grown to $214 million.

The largest recipient this year was the Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation with $5.7 million to be awarded over three years. Patrick Henry Community College is next at $3.1 million over three years. $1.4 million was granted for the funding of the Dick & Willie Passage Rail Trail from Spruce Street to the Smith River Sports Complex. Other amounts include over $603,000 to the Piedmont Virginia Dental Health Foundation, more than $520,000 over two years to Piedmont Community Services, and $500,000 to the Smith River Small Towns Business District Revitalization Project to be used to renovate the exterior of buildings.

The Board of Directors is Chaired by Dr. Paul Eason, a physician with Carilion Clinic in Martinsville and is operated under the direction of Allyson Rothrock who serves as President and has been with the organization since its inception.
