Body at Lover’s Leap Identified as that of Missing Ridgeway Man

Patrick County Sheriff’s office officials report they’ve confirmed the identity of a body found earlier this week. Officials say the body has been identified as Phillip Daniel Lilly. Lilly, 62, of Ridgeway, was reported missing more than a month ago to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. Lilly’s body was recovered Thursday from Lover’s Leap in Vesta. According to a statement from the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office, investigators were searching the area Thursday after locating a vehicle near the overlook on Monday. The vehicle belonged to Lilly. His body was recovered several hundred feet below where Virginia Department of Transportation officials first discovered the vehicle on Monday. Officials say the medical examiner’s office ruled Lilly’s death as accidental. The medical examiner said the cause of death was likely blunt force trauma consistent with a fall or crash. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office officially closed its investigation into Lilly’s disappearance because of this information.
