Wednesday, November 22

In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday the City Municipal Building and administrative offices along with Constitutional offices will close at noon on Wednesday,
November 22 nd and will reopen on Monday, November 27 th. Employees in essential operational positions (Police, Fire, EMS, water/sewer plant operations) will continue on their normal schedule. There will be no bulk or garbage pick-up on Thursday, November 23 rd . Normal garbage route pick-up will resume on Friday, November 24th. Thursday’s regular garbage route will also be picked up on Friday. Bulk trash will not be picked up on Friday the 24th.

Christmas Cheer, 4 Liberty Street, near Lester Building Supply and Grace Network with office hours 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, will accept applications through Wednesday, November 22nd. Applications must be completed in person and proof of residency in Martinsville and Henry County is required along with a photo ID. All household residents must provide their social security information and dates of birth. Acceptable proof of residency is a Virginia driver’s license, a city or county utility bill or AEP bill. Christmas Cheer has been assisting families in need residing in Martinsville and Henry County since 1951. Providing toys to small children, Cheer provides each household with a generous food box and blanket. The fundraising goal for 2017 has been set at $50,000. Donations can be mailed to PO Box 540, Martinsville VA 24114 or dropped off at the Cheer office.

Friday, November 24

Visit the museum on Black Friday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for an opportunity to meet the museum’s executive director, Dr. Joe Keiper, and view an array of specimens and artifacts that he will show-off from the museum’s collection vaults! Come by and ask questions about these wonderful items…if he can’t answer your question, you win a prize!

Saturday, December 9

Vickie Wasoski will teach a class on December 9th, 9am to 11pm. Students will make a sock snowman. This would be a great project for Christmas. All supplies provided. For adults & kids, $8 for members and $12 for non-members. Pre-register, call 276-957-5757.

Fairway Baptist Church invites the public to our Christmas Drama on Saturday, December 9 and Sunday, December 10. The drama starts at 6:00pm both nights. The church is located at 9427 Fairystone Park Hwy in Bassett, Va. The title of this year’s drama is “The Real Meaning of Christmas.” This event is free, open to the public and will be enjoyed by children and adults.

Celebrate the holidays with Piedmont Arts as Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and Chorus return to Martinsville for the museum’s annual Holiday Pops concert on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at 7 pm at Martinsville High School Auditorium. Tickets to Piedmont Arts annual Roanoke Symphony Holiday Pops concert are $25 for reserved seats, $15 for adults and $5 for students.
