Gas prices are on the rise across the country and experts say it’s only expected to get worse. According to AAA, the national average right now is sitting at $2.91. Virginia’s average is $2.68, but prices in the commonwealth are rising at the sixth-highest rate in the country, up 6 cents from a week ago.
Patrick DeHann with GasBuddy.com says oil prices have reached near four-year highs on concerns that upcoming sanctions on Iran – that are effective November 5 – may limit the amount of crude oil flowing out of that country. That means global demand might be higher than the supply available.
The Kroger on Commonwealth Boulevard and the Liberty Street Market on Liberty Street have the cheapest reported gas in Martinsville at $2.55.
